The Sinner’s “Beautiful Virtue”

Luther knew how to teach with a sense of humor, even using sarcasm to help show us our wrongdoing.

In teaching the 2nd Commandment, he lamented how little God’s name is faithfully invoked when we are in need. Rather, we are more likely to invoke God’s name to validate our lies and false testimony!

What a gross misuse of our faith, and yet Luther reminds us we all have this “beautiful virtue” within us. Let us not misuse our God’s name when we sin.

Instead, let us acknowledge our sin before Him, knowing we have forgiveness in His Name.
